…..The baking soda & water wash. I LIKE IT!

After looking with interest at this facial cleansing method, I decided to try it. I highly recommend this wash, at least for normal to oily skin.

Such an avid fan of this cleansing method I am! – As is my face. My skin is on the oily side. And I have some issues with larger pores, as well as some discoloration. The abrasion of the wash seems to thoroughly remove dead surface skin and lessen pore size, bringing a glow to my complexion. Perfect for removing makeup, the baking soda and water combination thoroughly deep cleanses. My face has never felt cleaner, even with masks.
Baking Soda Mask
In fact you can use a baking soda and water mask as an additional beauty regimen. For masking combine three (3) parts baking soda to one (1) part water to make a paste. Apply to face and leave on for 5 to ten minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. Dry well.
Baking Soda Wash
For the wash, generally combine one (1) part baking soda to three (3) parts water.
As with all new products and applications, do a skin test before washing the whole of your face. A larger amount of baking soda with a lesser amount of water left my skin feeling slightly raw at first. But the raw feeling didn’t last long.
That’s how I tend to be. If a small amount works, ‘a lot will work better’. My need for moderation is evident. According to my tendency I combined half a measure of baking soda to half a measure of water. This provided me with the scrub effect I liked – at least initially.
Sensitive skin may need more water with a lighter amount of baking soda for a slighter scrub. So test and experiment with the combination to find what’s best for you.
My skin type cherishes the deep pore cleanse this method accomplishes. I would not recommend using this method every day. But for me 2 – 3 times a week seems to work well. And the scrub effect causes no damage to my skin.
I remember at one time using an electric brush, soap, and water to obtain a cleansing effect and result. But the brush seemed to break down my facial tissues, making my face looser and saggy. By contrast the baking soda and water cleanse seems to tighten and tone my skin giving it better form and and a smoother surface.

One slight warning. When I freely rinsed the wash with my hands I caused somewhat of a mess on my clothes and my hair. You may want to cover your hairline to keep baking soda out of your hair. The effect tends to leave a graying look to your hairline and is not very easy to wash out.  Also it’s a good idea to place a towel over your chest to prevent splash getting on your non-facial skin or clothing.

Happy cleansing!
[Update 12/07/2015] Be careful to keep baking soda wash out of your eyes. There can be minor irritation.
